Model Overview

The Foton View CS2 is a global light commercial vehicle (LCV) manufactured by Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. Foton’s official commercial van line-up for export markets is collectively branded under the "View" series, which encompasses several variants including the CS2, C1, and C2. Positioned as a Japanese-style mid-size van, the View CS2 combines passenger comfort, safety, solid load-carrying capabilities, and generous cabin space, filling a crucial niche in the overseas commercial van segment. In the Chinese domestic market, the model corresponds to the MPX S-Class and View G9, whereas it is marketed exclusively as the VIEW CS2 in international markets. Engineered on Foton’s proven View platform and backed by years of continuous refinement, the Foton View CS2 serves as a pivotal model in the brand's global expansion strategy. Beyond China, the van is exported to numerous global markets, including Iran, Bahrain, Ghana, Kenya, Malaysia, and Australia. Rooted in the "3E" (Ease, Efficient, Excellent) product philosophy, its primary selling propositions are proven reliability, low running costs, and commendable fuel economy.

Design Language

The exterior styling of the Foton View CS2 adopts the classic silhouette typical of Japanese vans, offering a clean, functional, and modern aesthetic. Up front, a bold chrome grille is seamlessly integrated with large halogen headlamp clusters, lending it a clean, business-oriented road presence. Dimensions vary slightly depending on the variant: the standard wheelbase version measures 4,840 × 1,695 × 2,240 mm with a 2,570 mm wheelbase, while the long-wheelbase (LWB) variant comes in at 5,380 × 1,920 × 2,285 mm with an extended 3,110 mm wheelbase, providing significantly increased cabin width and headroom. Along the flanks, large side window panels maximise natural cabin lighting. At the rear, wide-opening split barn doors allow for effortless cargo and luggage loading. White remains the primary exterior colour option, catering seamlessly to diverse commercial and fleet fleet operations.

Inside, the cabin of the View CS2 emphasises ergonomics and hard-wearing utility, finished in a dark colour scheme to project a professional and durable finish. The dashboard layout is straightforward, with logically arranged controls for intuitive operation. Both the driver and front passenger seats feature manual multi-way adjustments. Higher-spec grades benefit from a touchscreen infotainment head unit with built-in navigation and multimedia connectivity, with leather upholstery available as an option on selected variants. In addition, dedicated NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) insulation upgrades throughout the cabin significantly suppress road and engine noise, enhancing overall comfort over long-haul journeys.

Powertrain & Performance

The Foton View CS2 offers a comprehensive selection of powertrains, covering both turbodiesel and naturally aspirated petrol options across various outputs. The flagship diesel variant is powered by the proven Foton Cummins ISF 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine, delivering a robust 120 kW (approx. 163 PS) and a peak torque of 360 Nm. Featuring a Bosch high-pressure common-rail direct injection system paired with a wastegate turbocharger (WGT), the powerplant achieves superior fuel atomisation; it stands out as one of the most powerful engines in the sub-3.0L commercial diesel category, churning out 22.5% to 60% more peak torque than rival segment offerings. Other diesel tunes are also available, including the ISF2.8s5141P (110 kW) and ISF2.8s3148T (148 PS) variants.

For petrol options, the range offers a 2.4-litre 4G69 naturally aspirated petrol engine. In Gulf markets such as the UAE, the 2020 View CS2 comes specified with a GCC-compliant petrol unit paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Across the entire line-up, the View CS2 is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox driving the rear wheels (4×2 RWD), well-suited to fleet operational demands and global driver preferences. Depending on the specification, top speeds range between 111 km/h and 130 km/h. The View CS2 engine range is engineered to comply with Euro III, Euro IV, Euro V, and Euro VI emissions standards to meet varied regulatory demands across worldwide markets.

Chassis & Handling

The Foton View CS2 is built on a heavy-duty ladder-frame chassis, providing exceptional structural rigidity for high-payload operations. Up front, it utilizes a double-wishbone torsion-bar independent suspension for decent ride comfort, paired with a heavy-duty longitudinal leaf spring rigid rear axle at the back to ensure optimal load-bearing capability and high-speed stability under full payloads. Kerb weight ranges from 1,895 kg to 2,435 kg depending on the configuration, with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) rating of up to 3,020 kg and a payload capacity exceeding 1,000 kg, delivering commendable hauling capability.

Braking is handled by a front ventilated disc and rear drum setup, equipped as standard with a Bosch four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) to maintain steering control and reduce stopping distances during emergency braking. Depending on the grade, tyre sizes come in either 195R15C or 215/75R16LT specifications. Steering is managed by a hydraulic rack-and-pinion power steering setup, offering an effortless, well-assisted steering feel.

Cabin & Features

The interior of the Foton View CS2 is tailored specifically for multi-purpose versatility, particularly in terms of flexible seating configurations. The van can be specified from a 6-seater up to a 19-seater layout, with foldable rear seats to quickly expand cargo volume when required. The driver’s seat offers manual slide and recline adjustments, mirrored by manual adjustments on the passenger side to accommodate drivers of varying builds. Upgraded leather seats are offered on high-spec variants. The dashboard houses a standard manual air-conditioning system, with select trims adding a touchscreen head unit with built-in GPS navigation. Practicality is well-catered for with ample cabin storage compartments, including large front door bins, an open dashboard storage tray on the passenger side, and lower centre console cubbies for travel logs, documents, and drinks. The rear cargo section is expansive, accommodating significant volumes of luggage or tools.

In terms of convenience features, the vehicle comes equipped with power windows, an anti-glare rear-view mirror, and a high-mount third brake light. Advanced NVH dampening materials further isolate the cabin from wind and tyre roar, providing passengers with a noticeably quieter ride.

Safety & Driver Assistance

The Foton View CS2 is engineered to stringent safety benchmarks. In selected markets, it leads its segment by introducing an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, which bundles Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). In addition, Bosch four-channel ABS + EBD comes standard across all variants to guarantee directional stability under hard braking. High-spec models further benefit from Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and reverse parking sensors. On the passive safety front, the View CS2 features Foton's 3H high-tensile safety cell construction, integrated side-impact door beams, and reinforced front and rear bumpers designed to absorb and disperse collision forces. Three-point pretensioner seatbelts are standard, alongside dual front SRS airbags, with dedicated emergency roof escape hatches fitted on selected passenger bus versions.

Market Performance & Reception

Serving as a key pillar in Foton Motor’s global commercial vehicle offensive, the View CS2 has established a solid track record across international markets. The model first debuted in Iran in 2016. Prior to that, in July 2014, it made its African debut in Kenya with an initial fleet delivery of 60 units dedicated to ground transportation at Nairobi Airport. In November 2018, the View CS2 officially went on sale in Bahrain, marking its formal entry into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market. In 2023, the model was launched in Malaysia, setting a benchmark as the first commercial van in its class locally to be equipped with ADAS active safety tech. By November 2024, the View CS2 had secured substantial fleet orders from public and municipal transport departments in Ghana. Foton’s official sales data revealed strong momentum for the View series, recording monthly global deliveries exceeding 500 units in both November and December 2025.

From an industry standpoint, the View CS2 in Malaysia offers an attractive 5-year or 150,000 km manufacturer warranty, backed by exceptionally low scheduled maintenance costs of only around RM5,600 (approx. RM8,500 equivalent) from 1,000 km up to 100,000 km, significantly undercutting rivals in terms of total cost of ownership (TCO). Automotive industry observers regard the model as a benchmark success in Foton’s commercial-to-passenger transition strategy; by delivering uncompromising durability and low operating costs across emerging markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, it goes toe-to-toe with established Japanese and Korean rivals, showcasing the growing global competitiveness and upmarket shift of Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturers.
